Spring Break in Myrtle Beach

I think I will try something a little different this time. I am going to post about the trip and to a separate post with the pictures. I took too many pictures so I have to go through and choose the ones I want to post but since it has been so long since I have blogged, I wanted to let you know what we have been up to.

We left Easter morning and headed to Charleston, South Carolina. We had to take 2 flights and wait a couple of hours in Baltimore for our connection and then once we finally made it to Charleston we drove another 1.5 hours to Myrtle Beach.

What a Super fun city!!! There is so much to do in Myrtle Beach. If you haven't had a chance to go there you should start your planning! We had great weather most of the time (only one day of rain and a tornado warning) but otherwise it was 85 and sunny and so nice! We stayed at a condo that was basically right on the beach which also had a pool so it was nice to be able to choose if it was going to be a beach day or a pool day. Ali decided she liked the pool better after crashing on the boogie board and scratching up her knee on the bottom of the ocean but Mitch and dad loved playing in the ocean and trying to catch some waves (which i must say were pathetic)! I usually love to swim in the ocean but didn't go in this time and usually I never get in swimming pools but I did do some of that this trip and it was kind of nice!

Besides the pool and beach we spent a lot of time doing other things that the city had to offer. We had decided that since we hadn't taken the kids on a "real trip" for a while and this will be the last one with just the 4 of us before the baby comes we would make it fun for them and let them do what they wanted so we spent a day at the Ripley's Aquarium which I do not recommend. It was highly overpriced and there really wasn't that much to see. I will say that it was pretty cool to walk through a glass tunnel and have sharks swimming over our heads but that's about it! Maybe it would have been more fun for smaller kids but we weren't really in to it. Luckily, the aquarium was at a super fun place called Broadway at the Beach. It was full of restaurants, shopping, zip lines, ropes courses, bouncy houses, bungee trampolines, and all sorts of other fun stuff so we were able to walk around and spend the rest of the afternoon checking everything out.

We then discovered that right in Myrtle just down the beach from our condo were a bunch more shops, more Ripley's museums, restaurants, Ferris wheels and some other fun things to do and we actually spent a couple of our nights hanging out there. Looking around and listening to live music at one of the restaurant/bars on the pier.

We had seen this place called WonderWorks at Broadway at the Beach and so Ali and I decided to go see what it was all about and were happy we did. We ended up going there the next day. This is a building that was built upside down to look like it had been hit by a hurricane and inside are 3 floors of interactive exhibits that were fun for kids and adults. We got to land the space shuttle, check our body mass, see how high we could jump, pitch to professional baseball players and see how fast we could pitch, wear a astronaut suit, do a ropes course, lay on a bed of nails, make huge bubbles, and Ali's favorite......ride this tandem bike where the more you pedal the higher in the air they bike would go and eventually, you would end up doing flips!!! (i was so bummed I couldn't do that one with her)! These were just a few of the things in the museum. We spent a few hours there in the early afternoon and ended up going back and spending a few more hours that night.

One other place we went was this Nascar place where they had a bunch of different courses set up and you get to race the cars against each other. I didn't get to do much but watch and play miniature golf here but B and the kids LOVED this one!!! They would just go from course to course driving as many times as they could until Mitch got kicked out of one of the courses for crashing into others too much! Too funny! But they had a super fun time and it actually was pretty fun to sit and watch them and see the looks on their faces as they would turn the corners and slide all over the place.

The rest of the time we spent playing games in the condo, watching movies, eating in and out, and just hanging out as a family. What a great time we had. It's a little bit bittersweet because even though we have a few little weekend baseball trips coming up and we are super excited for baby boy to get here it was the last "big" trip that we will take with just the 4 of us. It has been just us for so long and things are going to change but we are looking forward to new things to come for our little family!!!
